Anxiety Disorders are one of the most common, and most treatable, psychological conditions that affect children and adolescents. Anxiety disorders are characterized by persistent worry, fear, apprehension, or distress and significantly impact the child or adolescent’s ability to function in one or more areas of his/her life. If left untreated, anxiety disorders can lead to social and academic problems, low self-esteem, and a continuation of anxiety through adulthood.
There are several types of disorders in this category, which include:
Separation Anxiety Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Obsessive Compulsives Disorder
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Treatment for Anxiety Disorders is highly effective and often brief in nature. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy is used to identify automatic thoughts and change one’s resultant behaviors. I also work with children and adolescents to develop new coping skills to face anxiety-provoking situations and develop a sense of mastery and increased self-esteem.
